When I first got the SBI SimplyCLICK Credit Card back in 2016, it was my introduction to the world of credit cards. At that time, it felt like a solid entry-level option, and in many ways, it was. The card offered milestone benefits on annual spends of ₹1,00,000 and ₹2,00,000, which translated into decent rewards in the form of gift vouchers. On top of that, SBI partnered with leading e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Cleartrip, making it a practical choice for online shoppers like me. One of the biggest attractions was the frequent SBI-led promotions during online sales, which allowed me to get instant discounts on Amazon and Flipkart — a real perk considering how often those sales happened.
However, over time, things started to change. SBI revised its terms, and spends made during major online sale events were excluded from earning reward points. This was a big drawback, as many people used the card specifically to take advantage of those sale periods. While the base reward rate was reasonable for an entry-level card (typically 1% on most spends and 5x rewards on select online partners), the lack of accelerated rewards on discounted sale purchases made it far less attractive.
Looking back, the card was a good fit for me in 2016, especially since it was my first credit card. It gave me a smooth entry into the world of credit, taught me how to manage EMIs responsibly, and helped me benefit from online shopping offers. For sentimental reasons, it remains a special card for me, even though I have since closed it.
But if I were to evaluate it today, I would say it’s no longer a strong contender. The credit card landscape has evolved significantly. SBI itself now offers better products, such as the SBI Cashback Credit Card, which provides 5% cashback on most online spends without the complicated milestone tracking or exclusions during sales. Compared to that, the SimplyCLICK feels outdated, with its restricted reward structure and limitations.
In short, while the SBI SimplyCLICK Credit Card was a great starting point for many (myself included), it’s not the best choice anymore. For anyone entering the world of credit cards today, there are far more rewarding and straightforward options available.
